On March 25, 2021, JJLM filed a Complaint in the United States District Court on behalf of Joy Hanneman, a nurse who worked in the PACU at McKenzie-Willamette Hospital in Eugene. One of the charge nurses who oversaw Ms. Hanneman’s work subjected her and other female nurses to egregious sexual harassment, including lewd and degrading comments and unwanted touching.
Ms. Hanneman first disclosed the harassment to a manager, who treated her report as a joke and failed to investigate. Ms. Hanneman and others later reported to Human Resources, which allowed the harasser to retain his position and took no action to protect Hanneman. The Hospital ultimately allowed the harasser to resign and retaliated against Hanneman, cutting her hours, her position, and forcing her out of her job.
Ms. Hanneman fought back, fiercely standing up for herself and her rights. In the spring of 2022, JJLM settled Ms. Hanneman’s case. We are proud to have been able to work with Ms. Hanneman and guide her case to resolution.
