Attorney Jennifer Middleton is interviewed by KMTR and explains the effect of the Attorney General’s decision not to defend Oregon’s ban on same sex marriages in the case Rummell v. Kitzhaber. This case was filed in December by the ACLU and cooperating attorney Jennifer Middleton of our office. The Attorney General stated that Oregon’s law violates the U.S. Constitution.

District Judge Michael McShane will hear argument on the ACLU’s motion for summary judgment in April. We are hopeful that the Judge will grant the motion, and same-sex couples will have the freedom to marry within the year.
